General Description: 
Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Operations Manager, the Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory phlebotomy and Specimen Procurement staff.    
           
The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice® and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare. 

 Key Responsibilities: 
  •  Supervises employees and assigns tasks to best utilize the personnel assigned to the section. Promotes department efficiency. 
  • Coordinates the training and remedial training of Phlebotomy staff and Specimen Procurement staff.  
  • Counsels employees regarding job performance deficiencies and assists employees in obtaining goals and objectives. Participates in the disciplinary process when indicated. 
  • Completes performance evaluations for employees within the section and reviews them with the Laboratory Operations Manager prior to presentation to employee. 
  • Monitors time and attendance, section productivity, and oversees section staffing. 
  • Maintains inventory control, establishes ordering protocol and budget control. 
  • Interviews potential Phlebotomy and Specimen Procurement employees and makes hiring recommendations to Laboratory Operations Manager. 
  • Attends required in-services and meetings including interdepartmental & intradepartmental. 
  • Establish and maintain policy and procedure protocol for the section. 
  • Provides all aspects of Phlebotomy care based on established standards. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice as appropriate to the ages of the patient served. The employee will demonstrate competence by collecting adequate and correct specimens with the venipuncture and micro collection techniques for the care and treatment. 
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned. 
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area  
Requirements:

Formal Education:
  •  High School Diploma or GED required with vocational or other technical school certification, apprenticeship required.  
Work Experience:
  •   2 years to 3 years of supervisory experience preferred
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
  • BCLS through The American Heart Association required 
  • Phlebotomy Certification and PBT (ASCP) licensure required
